The Trouble With Valentine Day Rachel Gibson Books

Contemporary romance with protected sex.

Rob Sutter, who appeared in "See Jane Score" is the male lead in this book. He's settled down in Gospel, Idaho, the town featured in "True Confessions". Dillon & Hope from that book make appearances, as well as other quirky small town characters. His mom works at the town clinic as a nurse.
Kate has come from Vegas to help out her grandpa with the grocery store he runs. His wife has died & he's feeling very lost & lonely. Kate is running from a broken heart & a job she can't stay in anymore. She enjoyed her life as a PI, but a recent mistake she made is haunting her.

This story starts on Valentine's Day & progresses until it's conclusion in June. Kate sees Rob in a bar on her way to Gospel & decides to indulge in a one night stand. Something she's never done before. Rob turns her down. They meet later in Gospel & it's awkward.
I haven't read this story in years & I couldn't remember why. It's classic RG - funny characters, smart, romantic. I guess it's because though Rob is a great male lead, smart, sexy a stud, he's also a cheater. Years ago, when he was a hockey player, he was a typical man whore. He had a girlfriend (whom he cheated on), but when she got pregnant, he married her. While on the road with the team, he had a one night stand who turned into a stalker. I won't get into to detail because of spoilers, but it ended badly & he not only divorced, he swore off random (or any) sex.
There's a secondary senior romance between Kate's grandpa & Rob's mother that's sweet. Actually, this story is a lot better then I remember, so I give it 3 stars

The Trouble With Valentine Day Rachel Gibson Books Reviews

Most all of her books are great. Especially the writers series.
This series is very interesting. I am learning a lot about the game of hockey!
I was really looking forward to this book, since I absolutely loved three of Gibson's previous books and liked the other four. This one falls into the "like" category-with reservations. First of all, I agree with other reviewers about the mistakes. It's ridiculous that the book could make it to the stores with that many errors! After a while I found myself looking for them just for fun. But putting the errors aside, I was mostly entertained by the story. I also agree with the reviewers who question Gibson's idea of a "hot" leading man. A fu manchu, a soul patch and a humongous tattoo wouldn't normally do it for me. I guess I'd have to meet Rob to understand his sexiness. As is typical in Gibson's and other romances, Rob is a "slut." It's a little hard to work up a good crush on a man who wrecked his marriage by cheating on his wife. But if you believe he's a changed man, Rob does seem fairly likable now. He's happy just running his store and fishing in his time off. Kate is an okay heroine, but nothing about her really makes me like or relate to her. The romance between her grandfather and Rob's mother was sweet, I guess, but didn't do much for me. As a reader of all of Gibson's books, the one thing I really enjoyed was the way she mentioned characters from "See Jane Score" (yummy Luc Martineau) and "True Confessions" (Sheriff Taber, the Aberdeens, Dixie, etc.). That made the book just a little more fun. Overall, though it's not her best work, I'd still recommend this book to friends, especially ones who already like Rachel Gibson.
As always with Rachel Gibson, the characters crack me up with their smart-mouthed dialogue and then pull on my heartstrings with their sweet romance.
The story line is cute and the leading lady isn't a ditz like in the first two books. There were several spelling errors though. It drives me nuts that authors don't have their books proofread before printing
Kate is a PI on the road to recovery after suffering a devastating loss. She decides to escape to the wilds of Idaho to spend time with her grandpa. Along the way, she stops for the night - Valentines Day - at a ski resort due to bad weather. Maybe it was the hot buttered rum, or the fact that she was dumped by her longtime boyfriend the previous Valentines Day (only to have him marry the rebound girl), but Kate hates Valentines Day and decides to do something out of character - proposition a stranger, only to be shot down cold despite the flirting and sparks that is evident between the two.

Fast forward a few weeks, where she is dutifully helping grandpa with his grocery store and meets the man who owns the sporting good store across the street - and it just happens to be the same man who turned her down.

Rob, a former hockey player, was a dominating force on the ice, only to have his career destroyed after a one-night stand with an obsessive fan while separated from the woman who trapped him into marriage because she was pregnant with his child.

After a lot of hilarious meetings and bantering between the Kate and Rob, they finally start to realize that there is an attraction between them. And they finally start to act on the feelings, despite not really have faith or trust in one another. During which her grandpa and his mother fall in love and teach them a thing or two about trust and love. Although the book lacks emotional depth, it is a nice distraction and a quick read. I thought the ending was cute too!

Rob's tattoo alone had me wondering what it looked like in the flesh so to speak. I'd want to see this made into a movie for that alone! As for the goofy mustache and soul patch - hey, he finally shaved, didn't he? Get over it ladies! As for the typos - blame the editors, that is what they get paid for!
This is the second time I have read this book, first time I forgot to make a review and totally forgot about it, so I read it again, and I like it even more.
I like that Kate and Rob are in their 30's and have been through love and loss.
I liked how their friendship/romance developed through the book in a great pace.
I super liked the secondary romance going on through this book.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book, will be looking out for more by this author.
